What is Obstructive Sleep Apnea?

Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is due to the collapse of the soft palate and jaw of the mandible limiting, and at times temporarily blocking, the flow of air into the lungs. OSA is a physical blockage of the airway which is not the same as Central Sleep Apnea where the brain “forgets” to tell the body to breathe. Central Sleep apnea can only be treated with a C-PAP machine. Since OSA is a physical issue rather than a physiological one, we can use custom–fitted oral appliances that prevent the jaw of the mandible and soft palate from obstructing the airway.

What Are The Symptoms?

  • Chronic Snoring
  • Day-time sleepiness
  • Headache upon awakening
  • Memory and concentration problems
  • Moodiness/personality changes

If you suffer from any of these symptoms, we can work with outside sleep professionals to diagnose and treat your condition accordingly.
